Get Involved > 2006 Membership Campaign

I live here,
you live here,
and it's our Main Street.

Dozens of committed business owners and residents who share the desire to continue to improve the neighborhood have joined Federal Hill Main Street to help revitalize our business district in ways that honor the architecture and character of the neighborhood, while keeping the small businesses thriving and serving the needs of the people who live here.

As the Federal Hill Main Street program enters its seventh successful year, it is reaching out to neighborhood residents in its 2nd annual door-to-door neighborhood membership campaign. Letters were delivered in November to more than 3,000 households in the Federal Hill area, describing the accomplishments of the Main Street program and asking residents to contribute to the program by becoming members.  Main Street volunteers will go door-to-door in Federal Hill to follow up on the mailing, talking to residents about what improvements they would like to see in the retail district, and encouraging their involvement in improving the neighborhood.

With the neighborhood's support, Federal Hill Main Street plans to:

  • Work with the City to improve the intersection of Key Highway & Light Street, creating pedestrian-friendly access from the Inner Harbor to Federal Hill.
  • Redevelop the old derelict Public Comfort Station on Cross Street into a new Historic Federal Hill Visitors Center and Main Street office.
  • Continue our efforts to attract more businesses that meet the needs of the community, including targeted business recruitment through updated market studies and strategies.
  • Continue to Keep Federal Hill Clean and Green with improved trash and sidewalk clean-up solutions and vagrancy initiatives, including partnerships with city agencies, local schools and area nonprofits.
  • Continue our Belli Fiori beautification efforts, planting and maintaining large flower pots and assisting the business association in maintaining the hanging flower baskets.
  • Continue to promote the retail shopping experience with events like Moonlight Madness and Moms on Main Street.
  • Continue to promote and support young families in Federal Hill with Little Ones Lane featured at the festivals and other family initiatives.
  • Get out in front of the market’s changing demographic and business trends and assist in the targeted development of Federal Hill’s restaurant and tavern businesses.
  • Develop ongoing positive public relations for Federal Hill through press opportunities and relationships with area visitor organizations, etc.

...and other exciting initiatives.

The business district of Federal Hill is the first and last impression made on everyone visiting the area. A thriving, vital business district keeps the entire neighborhood alive and flourishing. And the steady support of the residents provides the businesses with the stability they need to prosper. We are all neighbors invested in each other’s success.
