Meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Main Street office. Chair: Greg Cangialosi
The Business Development Committee is perhaps the most important committee to the revitalization effort in Historic Federal Hill. This committee is charged with helping retain and expand existing businesses and bringing new businesses into Federal Hill. An emphasis is placed upon creating the right mix of businesses that will meet the needs of the community as well as bring tourists into the area.
In 2002-2003, the Business Development Committee completed a massive and thorough market study of the business district and the entire South Baltimore peninsula and created the comprehensive and powerful business recruitment and marketing brochure, Discover Federal Hill (contact the Federal Hill Main Street office to request a copy), to strengthen the existing businesses and attract new businesses to the neighborhood. The information learned from this study helps form the basis for all of Federal Hill Main Street's economic development efforts. The committee also compiles and maintains a Building Availability List, listing retail properties for sale or lease in Historic Federal Hill.
At present, the Business Development Committee is working on a few main activities:
- Updating and disseminating the Building Availability List, which lists all commercial properties currently available for sale or lease.
- Executing targeted recruitment efforts to attract retail businesses that are considered the most needed by the current shoppers in Federal Hill and by the residents living on the South Baltimore peninsula, as revealed in our market study.
- Working jointly with the Promotions Committee to bring more visibility to the business district, and to support Federal Hill Main Street-sponsored retail promotions, such as December 2005's Moonlight Madness event.
In 2006, a major goal for the committee will be to update the market study that was performed in 2002. The committee will also continue to pursue other goals, such as conducting small business seminars on matters of importance to area business owners and potential business owners.
We are actively seeking volunteers who want to help make a difference in the neighborhood. If you would like more information about doing business in Historic Federal Hill or volunteering with this committee, please contact the Business Development Committee at business@historicfederalhill.org.
